samsung tsst corp TS-L532A slim burner

Hi Guys, Merry Christmas at first. I own a DVD DL burner for my laptop, samsung TS-L532A. As in specificatioons it should burn +r and -r at a speed of 8x, +rw and -rw at 4x, and dl at 2.4x. I have noticed that when it burns at 4x it doesn't keep a constant speed, it seems to burn at 2x for 25% of the disc and 4x for the rest, so taking about 18 minutes to burn 4,5Gb. I don't know why, as normally burners use to keep a constant speed when they burn at 4x (they do not the same at 8x or 16x). I experienced another problem, memorex brand discs certified for 4x and 8x are recognized and burned as 2x and 4x, respectively. Maybe do I need a firmware update? Any fixes?
Thank you in advance for answers?

Laptop drives don't burn just like desktop H/H drives do.

Re: samsung tsst corp TS-L532A slim burner

Had a 4x NEC ND-5500a. It took about 18 minutes burn a full 4x disc. I heard the 8x 6500a takes about 13 minutes for a full 8x disc. You got to consider the power supply on your notebook is much weaker than your desktop.

Re: samsung tsst corp TS-L532A slim burner

Thank you very much for all replies. So I have to expect that slim burners are much slower than normal ones, have I? My normal LiteOn in an external firewire case has got no problem to burn memorex 8x -r in 9 minutes and +r in 7 minutes and 45 scs!!! I've heard from an owner of a Toshiba laptop that it burns 4x in 15 minutes (4,5 Gb), but maybe it was burning at 8x. But the other problem I have is that burner recognizes 4x memorex discs at 2x and 8x memorex at 4x. Maybe I need a new firmware, but it's not available at Samsung website. I've noticed that my burner is not quite present on the web, maybe it's quite a new model. Sometimes after burning at 4x data are not well readable from the burner, I have problems copying data from disc and pasting on hd, I don't knw why.

Re: samsung tsst corp TS-L532A slim burner

Hi,

does anybody know if i can change the configuration of my L532A to MASTER with some tool? On my notebook it only works fine as Master (there are problems with CSL and nCSL when booting).

Thanks

Re: samsung tsst corp TS-L532A slim burner

I've also a TS-L532A, with firmware TI50 and want to upgrade to sd-r6472. Which firmware should I use - TR or TU? And how can I back up my current firmware? I've tried with mtkflash but it won't work.

Re: samsung tsst corp TS-L532A slim burner

I'll wait updating to TU51 until I've found a way to back up TI50 since there is currently no need for me to upgrade (I don't burn that much). When I've a correct backup, I'll let you know

Re: samsung tsst corp TS-L532A slim burner

I have an Aspire 1522WLMi with this L532A with TI50firmware - Whenever I burn a DVD (Nero at 2.4X) it tells me everything was alright, but it can never read the disk it has burned (Mirror Platinum +r media). I have tried to change firmware to TU51 - but it still doesn't work. The burned disks have some problem as my external DVD player takes ages to read the disk, making seeking noises, and sometimes it works and sometimes not. Is this a media problem, harware problem or something else? Any help gratefully appreciated!

Did anyone ever find a link to the original TI50 firmware?

Note: this forum also reports some problems:
