Samsung TS-H552U, Burn / Read Errors.

Got a quick question for yal, hopefully you will know the answer.

Just recently my Samsung TS-H552U started having problems burning to HP Invent 8x 4.7 GB (Heard they were good and offic emax had them mispriced so I got like 100 for 15 dollars). Anyways when I use the HP Disc's the DVD drive burns sucessfully using Nero 6. When I try to verify the data on the disc after burn, it gets to about 15-25% then starts giving read errors (Usually starts at sector 30,000+). The wierd thing is I am not sure if it is bad DVD's or not, 2 out of 3 will do this but the 3rd one will work flawlessly, and if I burn any other media type (Kodac, Samsung) it works flawlessly. I even took a few of the HP DVD's to work and they burn / work fine (they have a Lite-On drive). Those DVD's that get read errors at 15-25% will not work in any other DVD player (gets same read errors, same spots). Upgrading the firmware of the drive did not help it any.

DVD ID: CMC MAG, AE1
(Included screenshot of burning process with Nero CD-DVD Speed, was wondering if that is normal)

My question is, is the HP disc's good with Samsung Drive or is my drive messing up, or do you think I got a bad batch of DVD's.

Also, I tried troubleshooting to see if it was my IDE Cable (swapped cables, didn't work) also tried hooking my DVD burner up to my USB External Enclosure but that did not work, kept locking up windows XP when I tried burning a DVD.

Try burning them at 6X. If still not workable, try 4X.

Re: Samsung TS-H552U, Burn / Read Errors.

Thanks,
Burning them at 6x results in about 1/4 bad disc's, at 4x they work fine.

I just bought some Tayio Yuden DVD's, every one I talked to said they were really nice.

Re: Samsung TS-H552U, Burn / Read Errors.

Yes, they are very good media if they are genuine. Did you get the +R or the -R? If you have the TY 8X -R (mid TYG02), then you will have the same problem as your HP 8X -R discs because the 552U is not a good burner with most 8X -R discs. OTOH, the TY 8X +R (mid YUDEN000T02) works quite well with the 552U.
