TS-H552A is also a Samsung. Though Toshiba is responsible for the marketing of TS-H552A, the drive is under TSST name which also shows Samsung name. So some people might just think it's Samsung.

I am still waiting for Samsung and Toshiba to recall TS-H552B.

Still waiting for the Samsung labelled TS-H552A, hopefully at the same price as TS-H552B. We never have non parallel import Toshiba DVD writer locally.

OMG, recall is the last thing they want to do.

Hi JesterUK, just wondering had you tried 16x writing? I think there is some issues with it.

Re: Samsung H552 Bitsetting?

Sen, no, not tried any 16x with it yet. got about a 300 4x rated +R's left here. (RitekR03), when i've done with them, I'll look into the 16x side of things. Isn't it still too early for 16x media? Always seems to take awhile to 'settle down'. had probs with 8x when that first came through.....
I'm in the uk. (obviously lol) and not sure where to buy at 16x at good price at min.) using www.rambox.co.uk and www.ukdvdr.co.uk so far.

cheers.

Re: Samsung H552 Bitsetting?

Some info about 16x writing on this drive for you. I think kenshin got a few coasters with those MCC004 on the Samsung.

Re: Samsung H552 Bitsetting?

It's not too early when the NEC 3500 and the BenQ 1620 can both produce perfect discs at 16X CAV write speed.

Re: Samsung H552 Bitsetting?

Does anyone know if Samsung is going to add bitsetting in firmware for either H552B or H552U? On 3th January they've released US03, but bitsetting is still not availibe.

Re: Samsung H552 Bitsetting?

[sorry for re-post, I couldn't edit my previous one]

BTW: My TS-H552B@US03 has produced strange kind of BookType on DVD+R today:
Code:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:AML-001-000]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [Unknown:08]
Manufacturer Name : [Manufacturer Not Found In Database]
Manufacturer ID : [AML]
Media Type ID : [001]
Product Revision : [Not Specified]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4,482.6MB = 4.38GB (4.70GB)]
Recording Speeds : [1x , 2.4x , 4x]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can anyone explain me what does this mean?
Burnt with Nero 6.6.0.5, DVD-Video compilation.

Re: Samsung H552 Bitsetting?

We had a 2hr long meeting with Samsung at CeBIT 2005 - discussing various things, and one of the things they hope to implement by firmware update is bitsetting support

We spoke about other things as well of course hehe, for two hours....

I hope Samsung Europe can talk to TSST Korea people eloquently enough to make that happen in a short time. I met the manager responsible for TSST Korea (part of former Samsung OMS) overseas / Europe marketing last year but there was no time for me to talk to him. Unfortunately, the organization's very centralized and authoritarian. Samsung's better products are 8ms response time LCD panels and DDR 2 PC4200 RAM modules. Both have become nearly the cheapest on the market.

On the other hand, one of my TS-H552B no more works. Perhaps it had some physical shock.

For two hours, did you also talk about Samsung's coming Blu-ray drives?

Re: Samsung H552 Bitsetting?

New firmware version (ts09) released today and, finally, bitsetting available. At least for DVD+R discs.

Made with TS552B@TS09

Unfortunately, ROM-booktyped DVDs are still being read with 3,5X-8X CAV speed.

TS09? Where did you download it? The official site still says TS08.

US06 for the TS-H552U is also out today from here. No booktype setting as far as I can see.
