Re: Patch Utility for Samsung MTK based DVD Writers v3.2.1 <-- *NEW*

The Sony DRU-840AK (20X DVD-writer, EIDE, no LS) is compatible with this utility? Does that mean the Sony DRU-840AK is a rebadged Samsung DVD-writer?

How about the Sony DRU-845S (20X DVD-writer, SATA, LightScribe)? Is it a rebadged Samsung or a rebadged Lite-on DVD-writer?

From the first post:
Quote:
* Also supported is the Sony DRU-830A and DRU-840A.
I doubt, the 840A and 840AK are different.

Samsung rebadge also.

I see... Thanks for the responses.

I thought the 840A and 840AK only differ in the color (I thought "K" means it's the black-color model of the 840A...)

So, Sony models before the 800-series are rebadged-Lite-Ons whereas post-800-models are rebadged-Samsungs..

Which is a better drive in terms of disc writing quality: Lite-On or Samsung?

Such is possible. Or some other packaging option.

It's not that easy

You might please ask that question in the general CD/DVD burner forum.
We want to stay ontopic within this thread, which is about the Patch Utility.

Thanks.

would you happen to know if Philips SPD6005 could be crossflashed to Sammy SH-S202n?

I believe you will need 7-zip or winrar to extract these files? although windows built in tool may work. I've used WinRAR for so many years now that is all i use for this.

Right click on the .exe file and extract the flasher and the .bin file. Then load the .bin file in the Patch Utility for Samsung MTK based DVD Writers v3.2.1

People want patch their firmwares but don't even manage to read the very first post of this thread, where all information is provided.

I have read the very first post It's BIG Usually I always try the "compressed exe" possibility.
This night I'm doing many jobs at the same time, ok ?

Anyway this is a typical problem on every forum.

e.g. in the 1st post I can read "for MTK based burners".. so, I have to spend other time finding extra infos around the net.
I think that "SH-S2xxx, SH1xx..." can be a more useful info than "MTK based" ... for everyone

and this is a good thing. Patching firmware needs some basic knowledge, even if GUI tools are existing. At least the user should know what he's doing. So, as many information as possible is given. Sometimes they are just a pointer to another essential article.

Which is very basic and does not support newer ZIP versions.

See above. Some knowledge is needed.
Also, there are too many MTK based Samsung drives, including OEM and Philips or Sony rebadges to put them all into a thread title.

Michael

Re: Patch Utility for Samsung MTK based DVD Writers v3.2.1 <-- *NEW*

Hi All,

After being pointed in this direction for a really fast sl/dl dvd reader I bought an OEM samsung SH-S223 SB00.

It arrived this morning and after doing initial read tests I was ready to flash with the patched fw. problem is I get a 'flash cmd fail' error when I attempt to write the patched fw. I initially thought it was a SATA issue so I tried it on 3 different mainboards (abit xp pro/asus vista/g'byte vista). Unfortuanatly same error pops up.

I've searched the forums and cannot find a reason for this error, any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Sojourn

Re: Patch Utility for Samsung MTK based DVD Writers v3.2.1 <-- *NEW*

That's odd. I haven't had any problems flashing my OEM SH-S223F. Have you tried the flasher here:

Edit: Also make sure AHCI is disabled.

You're the man!

The custom flasher did the job straight away, just backed up a dvd9 (5.7gb) in 6 minutes (previously 9.5min)

You are gonna save me hours of backing up my DVD collection.

Thanks again,

I'd see what others say but I think it can be done on all the 203 series using this flasher?

That would be the 16x DL read, which didn't work well for me.

Re: Patch Utility for Samsung MTK based DVD Writers v3.2.1 <-- *NEW*

After using "select all" with SB02 i get really bad burns with 16x verbatims burned at 16x on a s203N

Ive included 2 discs burnt before patching, one pic of a disc burned while patched (there were 2 bad patched burns but i forgot to save, had similar PI failures), and one after i restored. Anyone else have these problems or is my drive just messed?

The scan for the patched burn was done at 18x max. The others at 16x.

Wow, good eye. I totally forgot about the 16x->18x SL hack... but why does it cause the PI failures like it does? If i use the fast read option will it cause read errors like if i am copying a backup off one of my dvds with windows explorer? I hope its just a side effect that only affects DiscSpeed. I attached a new scan using the original firmware to scan it.

The error count shown in CD/DVD Speed (and other tools like that) is different with different speeds. That's normal.
You might have a look in the Media Testing Software forum, there are some really good stickies about that.

If there are reading problems, then the drive will slow down by itself.
