DVD cant be read

Hi,
i donno the model of my DVD/CD-RW drive but for the last couple of months i havent been able to read any dvd.i can write cd's using nero and have no problem with either playing data cd, music cd or video cd.My problem is with dvd.when i insert a dvd ,be it a data dvd or video dvd, and double click on the dvd/cd-rw icon on my computer, it shows blank.

Hi and Welcome!

DVD/CD drives have basically two different optical units, one of them supports CD, the other one is for DVD. Seems as if the DVD unit went bad.
Try if lens cleaning will help.

Try to boot from a bootable DVD.
