Re: Cdfreaks presents Samsung TS-E552U review

This review must have been posted while I was mostly absent in front of any computer. My daughter's growing fast so I don't have much time to stay near computers. TS-E552U drive is being sold in Europe but not in Asia, at least not in the countries I looked at. TS-H552U isn't in South Korea, either, but I have US04 firmware on my TS-H552B. Thanks for the review, Jan.

BTW, my TS-H552B with US04 firmware still does not work with CD-DVD Speed 3.75's Disk Quality test PIE/PIF scan tests. The "Start" button is disabled when I scan DVD disks. With CD disks, it works but only C1 is not working so pretty useless.

I have just tried US05. After running CD Speed 3.75 with US05, I went back to US03. Both firmware versions in CD Speed 3.75 did not work well for Disk Quality tests.

Oh man, if you hate someone on earth, you recommend a Samsung DVD-writer to him.

After I read that 2 reviews I´m sure you can´t get a more worse writer

Re: Cdfreaks presents Samsung TS-E552U review

Well, you hated Samsung long before you read those reviews. Such comments are hardly helpful to anyone. What you said is hardly a summary of what CDRLabs said in their conclusion.

Quote:
Highs:

Writes to DVD-R and DVD+R media at 16x
Writes to DVD+R DL media at 6x (with firmware update)
Reads single layer DVD-ROM's at 16x
Reads DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW media at 8x
Features P-CAV 40x CD-R and 32x CD-RW writing speeds
Good selection of writing and rewriting speeds
Features Super Link buffer underrun protection
Good CD writing quality
Great seek times
"2 Sheep" burner - backs up all but the latest versions of Safedisk protected titles
Includes buffer underrun prevention technology
Extremely quiet drive
Excellent electronic manual and software bundle
Affordably priced

Lows:

Questionable writing quality, especially with DVD-R and DVD+R DL media
Cannot write to 8x DVD±R media at 16x
Does not support bitsetting for DVD+R/RW or DVD+R DL media
Only a 2048KB buffer
Doesn't support the Mt. Rainier format

Re: Cdfreaks presents Samsung TS-E552U review

Now I´m sure you Kennyshin from Cdrlabs.

I DON´T hate Samsung. I like their Monitor´s and DDR-RAM´s.

But in optical drives Samsung is one of the worst manufacturer, you can see it in almost every review and of course, if you read some experience from the users. Only BTC seems to be a challenger with bad drives.

You´re a Samsung-fanatic, I have read some of your threads:

"Samsung wants to be No. 1 in everything"

Who cares? I hope (and know) with quality like that Samsung will never be No. 1 in optical drives. The 552B was a real bad writer, the 552U seems to be more worse. In the c´t-magazine the Samsung was tested and had with DVD+R DL the worst quality index that ever happened in a review: -863

And I know, that beeing fanatic is not good for anyone, even for you.

I know you know much about optical-drives, but you´re to biased if it comes to a korean manufacturer like Samsung
