You need a very good USB host controller on your mainboard (Intel or nForce). Forget about doing this on a laptop.

Works great on my Asrock Intel Conroe 865PE board with ICH5 southbridge, linky. OS = WinXP SP1.

Possible problems to reach 18x speed on laptops, as suggested by Cressida. But the newest C2D lappys should be able to handle this drive.

Yeah, 2 native +2 add-on-card IDE channels. I865PE board with modest 775 cpu (C2D 4300 @2.4GHz... )

even with intel core duo processor 1.83 ghz
i was ready to buy this burner

why ?

I believe pinto2 mentioned that it should work fine with a C2D lappy

so with my dell 6400 coming with a 1.83 c2d, there won t be any problem to burn dvd at a correct speed

did some guys test this writer on laptops ?
it should be great if someone will do so
