Slow burning speed - Club CDFreaks

Hey guys,

I have an LG GSA-4160B burner on Ubuntu 7.04 and i cannot speeds of 16x when using 16x LG DVD-R disks. Initially, i was stuck at 4x but then i updated the firmware from A300 to A306 and got up to 8x... I'd still like to get up to 16x though.
Also, i have DMA enabled and the drive is on its own on the secondary channel IDE with data being written from a SATA HDD.
How do i get it to burn at full speed?

What brand discs are you using?

Prolly not the best brand in the bin....are Verbatim available in your area? What do the LG's code out as (MID).

When you say you are stucked, it means that Nero Linux does not offers you the possibility to select 16x in the combo box? Or is it somehow the calculted speed regarding the complete burning time ?
