Nerolinux fails with "communication failure" on debian unstable

Hi,

i got a Pioneer 109d, and nerolinux 2.0.0.1.

hdd: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive

kernel is 2.6.8-rc2
on a x86 _pure_ 32bit system on a 64bit amd processor on a
asus a8n sli deluxe board

i had some other cdrecording drive before that worked flawlessy using nero on the same system.

i can start nerolinux.
sometimes it fails recognizing my recording device, restarting it several times helped with this issue. (this fix was an idea from a friend using windows xp)
i can create a 'compilation',
insert a dvd (tried verbratim dvd+r and verbratim dvd-r both 16x compatible)
choose a writing speed, choosed 2x 4x 8x and onetime i was able to choose 2,4x

start it.

it writes the 'lead in'
'communication failure'
'Burn process failed at speed ..'

it fails with burning cds and dvds using nerolinux

i can mount and read normal data dvds.

i found no other information i could post here (logs etc)

would be great if you could help me

Re: Nerolinux fails with "communication failure" on debian unstable

Can you run NeroLINUX as root, and after that go to /usr/share/nero. You will find there a file called NeroHistory.log. Just remove the first line (serial number) and attach the rest here, so that we can see exactly what went wrong.

BtW, for me it sounds strange, as I am also unsing a debian unstable... but with a 2.6.12 kernel. So maybe updating your kernel would solve your problem

Re: Nerolinux fails with "communication failure" on debian unstable

Looks like you have problem with your DMA controler... Which driver are you using for the nForce chipset ? Kernel ones or nVidia ones ?

kernel based,
and as far as i know there is no nvidia driver for nforce4

Re: Nerolinux fails with "communication failure" on debian unstable

this is not an dma issue

during the last weeks i double checked this

hdparm -tT /dev/hda
/dev/hda:
Timing cached reads: 3164 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1581.45 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 164 MB in 3.01 seconds = 54.57 MB/sec

with broken or without dma such rates are impossible.

not to mention the problems remain the same in 2.0.0.2.

Re: Nerolinux fails with "communication failure" on debian unstable

We just finished testing NeroLINUX 2.0.0.2 on one of our test machines, using the same motherboard and the same recorder. We were able to reproduce this 'Communication failure' when the device was connected with a 40 pins cable.
Everything worked without any kind of problem as soon as we replaced this cable with a 80 pins one...
