Nero newbie - Club CDFreaks

I thought that I was burning photos from my HD before re-formatting, but the burned disc info says there is just track info. I may have unwittingly burned the photos as "data"? Is that possible? What the heck is a Joliet file and more importantly..... where are my pixs?
