If it doesn't show in your applications menu after installation, you can run the command "nero" (without quote marks) to try and start it (in a terminal or via Alt+F2).

Re: Nero Linux 3 beta is now available for download

Why do I get the feeling your PC is running Windows and not Linux???

From nero.com ( http://www.nero.com/eng/NeroLinux3Beta.html ):
Quote:
System Requirements

* Linux Kernel 2.4 or newer (2.6 recommended) with X-Window
* Glibc 2.3.2 and libstdc++6 3.4
* GTK+ 2.4.10 (or newer)
* 800 MHz Intel® Pentium® III processor, AMD Sempron™ 2200+ processors or equivalent, 128 MB RAM
* Hard drive space: 50 MB for program installation
* CD, DVD, Blu-ray, or HD DVD recordable or rewritable drive for burning

Sorry, you can't use Nero Linux 3 beta on Windows. Linux is a free (Open Source) alternative to Windows. If you are interested in using Linux, you can take a look here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=213868

Yes, I recommend Linux (not linus) over Windows, but we're getting too far off-topic in this thread, so I'll leave it at that if you don't mind.

The good news is that you don't have to buy Linux.
http://www.linux.org/

Pick a distribution that looks like it might meet your requirements
and have a look on this site: http://distrowatch.com/ Ubuntu is
easy to install and hugely popular at the moment. In a vain
effort to get back on topic, I can confirm that NeroLinux
works well with Ubuntu. You should also try K3B which is
free and rather nice.

Nero 3 really needs ALSA support!

OSS emulation is no good because the device is busy as soon as i have any alsa-application running.
ESD doesn't work at all, because i don't run the daemon. Actually, the esd-library is configured to wrap to alsa directly. But nero doesn't seem to use it.

Another bug:
choosing DVD UDF and trying to throw files in it will bring up an errormessage
"VIDEO_TS Folder not there.:" or something like that.
So no UDF DVD possble.

When exactly do you get this? When adding files to the compilation or when starting the burn process? I am a little bit astonished about this one...

Yesterday under debian it didnt work.
Today under archlinux extracted from the rpm instead of the deb it works.
But it was when adding stuff to the compilation

Yep, ALSA issue needs to be resolved since it has become the defacto standard for Linux. Another way around this is you might try is to have OSS emulation for ALSA activated in your kernel.

I'm downloading the beta now of Nero and will take it for a spin. If the released product supports FLAC I'll be buying it. I never could get the earlier Nero to work with FLAC, so it was a waste of $$$$. I currently use Gnomebaker and Bashburn.

Keeping my fingers crossed, back in my M$ days I loved Nero.

I'm a Gentoo fan myself, but for friends and family I set up

Linux Mint

Very sweet distro, basically what Ubuntu strives to be.

As mentioned in another thread, the ALSA driver will be part of the final release.

FLAC support will be provided for both decoding and encoding processes. The beta however only contains the decoder.

Are you sure you weren't playing with a DVD-Video compilation? In this case, it won't burn if the VIDEO_TS folder is not present, and you will not be able to add non-compliant DVD-Video files to it.

if you are using x86_64(amd64 is what i am using). then there is some problem with the way it places nero linux libraries.
by default on a amd64 machine all 32-bit libs must go to /usr/lib32, for some strange reason this is not working for nero.
you have to manually move contents of /usr/lib32/nero to /usr/lib/nero
and move all /usr/lib32/libNero* /usr/lib/
check the permissions for /usr/lib/nero/ and /usr/share/nero
you should have a+rx for these (i think)

this should work, i got it working.
Thanks,

Re: Nero Linux 3 beta is now available for download

I am using NeroLinux3BETA to burn the data DVD, it works great just like it does in Windows. However, I have a probably silly question, is NeroLinux3BETA time-limited for using?
