Hi,

when I try to burn a single file with the name "ö.txt" Nero doesn't do and stops with the message "Aborted by user"

When I try to burn the same file with other files Nero crashs without error message.

When I rename the file to "o.txt" all went well.

What's the reason? Is there a possibility to debug the error (log file, debug options)?

This might say that your locale settings is not correctly set. We manage to burn files with 'ö' and other strange characters without a problem.

In english: No problems with the german "ö" here...

I have the following settings in KDE control center:
- Country: Germany
- Languages: US Englisch

Starting from the bash doesn't help

At the moment my locale environment variables are set to posix. At the weekend I will try to set it to UTF-8.

You should check what the 'locale' command output is giving to you... and also the environment variables status when process starts.
The main problem is that when the burn process start, all the filenames will be transformed into pure Unicode (wchar_t) with locale-dependant functions. If these functions fails because of a dangling locale, you might get an application crash.

After I switched to UTF-8 nero recognize german umlauts.

How to change permanently to UTF-8 ? Everytime it change back to POSIX.

Better first ask the bestfriend Google before make a stupid post in a forum ;-)


Solution for Gentoo Linux:

create a file /etc/env.d/02locale with content:
LANG="en_US.utf8"
LC_ALL="${LANG}"

then run commands:

# env-update
# source /etc/profile


done
