uwd is Zenwalk linux's solution to automount CD's & DVD's.

Here's the bug as reported to the Zenwalk devs and their reply

"With uwd enabled, Nero 3.0.1 hangs when a blank CD-R is inserted and tries to access it (even only to get media info). When the uwd service is stopped, Nero works flawlessly."

"It's an incompatibility. uwd keeps the generic scsi device open for reading, in order to poll for disk insertions. There is no obvious reason for another app to care about this (GnomeBaker doesn't, so far as I can tell), but according to this report, nero does."

Nero Linux uses the SCSI generic device to be able to send any SCSI command to the device (like for example vendor-specific commands for some specific features like booktype change).
