| Nero 3 and ISO So, it's still not possible to create a proper ISO file, only an NRG file. Is this something that are going to change? It's kind of stupid to only be able to create a NRG file and then convert it to a *normal* ISO. Anyhow, the ver 3 look much better the the older ver 2 of nero ![]() |

| Re: Nero 3 and ISO The thing is the following: you can only create an ISO image out of an non-multisession compilation. Normally with version 3, multisession is turned on by default. So if you turn it off, and then end your image filename with .iso, the created image _should_ be ISO. |

| Re: Nero 3 and ISO see this is where commercial companies just don't get linux. linux users will not put up with proprietary software that uses proprietary formats for no good reason (and offer no alternative) when there is already a perfectly good and well-known standard iso9660. it really makes no sense - it means you either have to get a third party piece of software to convert to iso, or you can only use that file with nero, hence achieving vendor lock-in. i've never understood bin+cue/nrg/ccd/dmg etc. cd formats, if you need to store extra proprietary data then have the iso file and a seconday file. |

If you select copy and choose image burner, it will create a .NRG even if you rename it to .ISO. Code: CD-ROM is NOT in ISO 9660 format If you do a copy to the real burner device and deselect the remove temp image so you save it instead, you will get. Code: CD-ROM is NOT in ISO 9660 format It was just the same in version 2 of NEROLinux. Sad just sad, that you need a 3rd party software to create a *normal* standard .ISO.

You should be able to choose if you like to save it as NRG or ISO even in Windows,Linux, whatever. NRG is fine if you like to create an img of a audio cd since iso don't handle it. But don't force me to *only* use a specific file format in this case, .NRG. I like to use nero on my linux machine, but... not if it's like the old ver2 that you need other stuff to do *the normal* stuff. Like now I will stick with nautilus or k3b or other burner applications that can do the stuff like it supposed to. //Mike

I downloaded latest nero 3 beta, and i'm testing it. I saw you can select the file type (nrg or iso) at the bottom of the dialog box wich prompt for a filename when burning image.... Even if the extension stays to nrg when switching to iso format. But... i tested something else which fails. i tried to burn an image containing japanese characters (utf8 enconding) with : mode 1 + iso9660 + level 1 names + rockridge mode 1 + iso9600 + level 2 names + rockridge and i got a wrong image (directories duplication). I successfully tried using gnome baker to confirm the problem.... ... 9th try, problem appears randomly .... many tries later, problem «solved» : when i drop a symlink into the image tree, then the link is burned, not the real directory. i does not depend on rockridge or joliet.... regards, Kawazu Last edited by Kawazu; 25-04-2007 at 14:06.

Ok. Now I understand you are creating a iso from within the nero, I',m trying to create an iso from a disk/copy (CD/DVD). Save the disk as iso.

And also ISO can be used by all burner applications, NRG not. Yes it's easy to copy a disk as iso from linux, but still... why the need of two different applications if it can be done with the nero only?
