newer combined system & drive firmware

i have lost track of how long ago this has been, probably 6 or 7 months, but Lite-On started combining the system & drive separate firmwares at least in the 5000 series into one firmware. i haven't read the forum in a while so this may have been discussed, if so please someone set me straight. back then i attempted to update one of my LVW-5006 models (made in 12/04) w/ the new combined firmware and the macrovision hack didn't work, and the unit started to malfunction. i finally had to call Lite-On and a second level tech e-mailed the old separate system and drive firmwares and i reset the unit w/ the unhacked versions, then hacked it using the hacked system firmware, and i got it working again. i could have sworn i got the hack to work on my brother's unit which i used the combined firmware on, and it worked, but that unit was made in 5/05. (i wondered if when they were made had anything to do w/ this?) it does not appear that the ILO Hacker has modified his hack to account for this change. i asked Lite-On and they said all their firmware for their decks is going to this combined firmware. (and all the firmware up to the 5006 is a one size fits all configuration: it is all the same, except for maybe the 5001.) if that is so, wouldn't the ILO Hack need to be adjusted to account for this?? after all it is only designed to work on the system portion of the firmware, not the drive, and when it is presented w/ both i would think it would screw it up, like it did w/ this particular model. now i am faced w/ sending in my sister-in-law's unit for repair it is acting so erratically, they will reset the firmware and i will have to put it back to the old separate firmwares to disable the macrovision, and the drive i had them on crashed two months ago, and i neglected to burn them to disc, so i will have to see if i can get Lite-On to send them to me again. from what i can see the ILO Hacker has made no upgrades to his hack for the entire 13 months i have been looking at it. anyone got any advice on this, and/or had similar problems w/ his hack not wanting to work w/ the newer combined firmwares?
