liteon 5005 question hi all i brought a lite0n 5005 b model about 4 days ago,and overall im pretty please with it, but i have a qustion and im hoping someone might be able to help. when i watch a t.v channel via scart though the t.v its a nice sharp picture, but ive noticed when i watch the same channel via the liteon dvd recorder it seems a little blurry , it seems like there is a lack of sharpness, and i also notice there is slightly less colour also, is there any hidden menus in the liteon which allows this to be altered. its not too bad of a problem, and i guess most people wouldnt notice it, but im slightly fussey so is there anyway to cure this please. thanks alot hazzardboy7

Re: liteon 5005 question I think the 5005 tuner does in general give a "softer" output than the normal uk type tuners, I havnt found any way of altering it in menu's. There may be some way on the circuit board but that means diving inside. There are things we would all like to have altered with the 5005 but as with all things they cant please all the people etc... Be careful with disc choice as cheaper ones will no doubt give you trouble, also recording via DV will end in tears sooner rather than later...

Re: liteon 5005 question Yeah, what do you mean by 'end in tears sooner or later?'. I have been transferring my home video via DV from my dv camera to an Imation dvd-/+r and I have no problem so far? Been using 5005 in HQ as all my dv video do not exceed 1 hr. Thanks

Re: liteon 5005 question Sorry for the wait before my reply, been a bit busy! Its reported on other groups and I experience it as well that when using DV in to record it seems to work fine for short clips but if you have over an hour to transfer or if you have breaks in the video footage on the camera (blue screens) that you record through then when you have finished and hit stop on the 5005 it just hangs there and the only way out is a mains off reset. The disc you just spent hours editing is now toast. This was a known bug with both the 5001 and 5005 and was supposedly fixed in an earlier software version...but its not. B. Bug Fixes ------------------- 1. System cannot stop recording after DV stops playback. 2. Stability to stop recording DV. I only use Verbatim discs +rw fail every time when over 1 hr recorded and blue cuts in video are present. Verbatim -r discs get the same result. If you edit on the fly by keep pausing the record just before blue screens and keep the copy length below 1hr you may get better results but I gave up as it was so frustrating and copied all my camera footage over via the front phono sockets, the quality didnt seem to suffer (visually) and no toasters. Reason for only using Verbatim x4 discs? Well most cheap discs I tried gave variable results from toasters to ones that wouldnt play on other dvd players that I or my friends own. +rw discs dont need finalising to play on anything else either. If you find a way to overcome the dv problem 100% then I would sure like to know about it ![]() Oh btw my firmware is the hacked version which gives 3hr record and mac removed. Mike.

Re: liteon 5005 question Mike I do not seem to have the issues you are experiencing. I cannot say much about editing on the fly as all I use the 5005 is to transfer my home video via dv to dvd. I've tried 1 hr HQ and 2hrs and have no issues. I use Imation dvd -/+ only because this brand is listed on their recommended medium list. I don't use RW so I finalise every -/+ dvds and plays on other dvd players. Before Imation, I used TDK and I had image freezes and skips. No problems with Imation.

Re: liteon 5005 question Glad to hear that DV is working ok for you Macaroo, it may have something to do with the hacked firmware I have in mine though I doubt it as they were supposed to have fixed the stopping problem well before that version and others have also reported having problems too. Can you point me to exactly which Imation -r discs you are using and a supplier if you are in the UK, I will try a couple and see what happens ![]() Apart from this issue and the tv tuner I am very happy with mine and use it daily with +rw discs instead of the vcr. About he only thing I havnt hooked up through it to record yet is freeview and am slowly copying my old favorite vhs tapes over to dvd too. So much simpler than using the pc to transfer stuff around.

Re: liteon 5005 question Are RW disks generally more finicky than R+ / -? Reason I ask is I have Maxell RW's. They have recorded and played back fine on the 5005. They also playback fine on our JVC DVD Player. However........they are unrecognisable in an APEX DVD player and on our home PC and my Laptop. You hear the drive seeking repeatedly, trying to read the disk, then it gives up after about 15 seconds. I will try some R+'s at the weekend.
