Blank media brands for LiteOn LVW-5005

Just purchased a new LVW-5005 stand alone DVD recorder. LiteOn has a list of brands of DVD-R media that they say are compatible with the 5005, but most are not available locally. Anyone have experience using the well known brands like Verbatim, Maxell, TDK, Fuji, and others for recording? I don't know if these brands are not compatable or just were not tested. Thanks, frisam.

Re: Blank media brands for LiteOn LVW-5005

I have used Maxell 4x DVD-R and TDK 4x DVD+R and TDK 4x DVD-R with no problems. The DVD+R discs seem to perform operations faster (e.g. stopping a recording or finalizing) than DVD-R. I buy the TDKs at Costco, but recently they have replaced their stock with newer TDK 8x DVD+R and 8x DVD-R. Anyone used these?

I've used maxell + 4x, tdk +- 8x, verbatim - 8x, sony - 8x, fuji - 8x, ritek +rw 4x, princo -rw 4x. All worked fine. The only brand I had problems with was memorex +rw.

Re: Blank media brands for LiteOn LVW-5005

Most disks I have used with this Recorder are Verbatiums both +r's and +RWs with complete sucess, also Maxell +RWs with complete sucess but just bought some TDKs +RWs these have all failed the prep stage(could be a bad batch)

The TDKs are 4x the Verbatiums are 2.4x but the verbatium +r are also 4x ?
This may be the recorder though check your firmware (top right in setup) the last four digits before the bracket group are the drive version the drive models 401s and 411s have F2SC the newer drives models 811s have a different code.

Hope this helps a little

From my experiences, most(all + that i've used) discs will record and play back fine on the liteon 5005. The real test for me has been
playing back on another machine.some players are not compatible with certain
discs. For example,Playstation 2 is supposed to play +r and +rw but it wont play any of my discs recorded on the 5005,not perfectly anyway. Some it wont even recognise. I have not used any of the Liteon recommended discs,so I've only myself to blame I suppose.
The discs i've used are maxell+r 1-4X, maxell+rw 1-4X. mr dvd+r & mitsubishi -r. ANYBODY KNOW OF A DISC THAT WORKS ON THE new SONY PLAYSTATION 2? I've ordered some IMATION +R discs so I hope they're gonna work.

writer number 5 will accept the TDK's (different drive model ) without problems so if any disk shows invalid disk then maybe a drive firmware will cure it.

At first I used some 1X Maxel DVD-RW discs. Use the 4X at least, if you can. It takes forever to "finalize" with slower speed discs.

I agree with nickKK, Verbatim +RWs (2.4x), and Verbatim +Rs (4x mostly) have proved to be most reliable. I have found TDK +RWs to be poor.
Memorex +RWs mixed. Philips +Rs (4x, 8x) seem reliable. I've just got some Philips +RWs - seem a bit mixed but not tried them enough yet.

Verbatim 2.4x RWs are available at Maplins (3 for £5 but sometimes they do two for price of one). Verbatim 4x +R are available from Office World, and Maplins and sometimes I think PC World -easily available on the Web).

TDK discs and LiteOn LVW-5005

Tried a brand new TDK DVD+R 8x disc from costco, failed to finalize. (fail). Returning the 5005 to costco...hey, screw it if it won't work with the discs they sell. Also Lite-on should design it to work with TDK discs (without trying firmware updates etc), a huge popular brand name, out of the box. Bought the LVW-5115GHC+ yesterday at Costco, am hoping this will work fine. Has VCR+ ! (But i'm searching the net for any problems reported with this model....as well as a comparison between the two...let me know if anyone hears anything...)

Anybody know if there's a RF Converter to convert between component and/or RCA (composite) over to S-Video and vice-versa?

FUJIFILM 8X DVD-R problems with 5045

Hi guys,
I used TDK DVD-R 8X without issues. Yesterday I bought 50 pack of dvd-r 8X fujifilm from BJ's!

I burnt one in 5045 without any issues, took it to my PC and played it using PowerDVD.

It gave me an error after an hour. I search for a tool that verifies the files on a DVD, and found one that told me that two files on the DVD are having reading problems.

I burnt another DVD-R and ran the tool again and it told me the media has reading problems for some of the files,

So I ran the tool on some of the TDK dvd-r I burnt before, and it gave me no errors or warnings.

I was glad since giving me no errors while recording then having an error while reading it is an scary issue.

My question is, how do I find media that works fine with lvw-5045?
The recommended list is not available in the market.
Should I limit myself to DVD with speed 4X?
TDK 8X worked for me!!

Is there a way to upgrade the firmware of the burner/drive inside this unit to write correctly on 8X & 16X?

Thanks

Re: Blank media brands for LiteOn LVW-5005

Well here's my two 'pennoth on media. I'd been meaning to ask about this very topic as it's been a right 'buggers muddle' for me and the 5005.

Office Max Brand R+ Would not work in Lite On, returned to store

Maxell R+ Worked in Lite On, would not read back consistently in JVC, Apex or Toshiba Laptop. Also occasional Lite On failures when reading back.

Maxell +R/W Works in Lite On and JVC. Will not recognise in Apex or Toshiba Laptop. Seems like the Toshiba Laptop continually 'reads' the menu frame. ie: You can see the little pictures of what has been recorded but clicking on a picture doesn't do anything.

Maxell -R/W Works in all devices. Downside is that these disks require a 30 minute format to be carried out per disk. Well at least they work.

I would like to try the Taiyo whatever their names are but looks like these are only available via mail order.
