I know how it feels waiting around for scans, I've had tons of them throughout my 31 years, both MRI scans and CT scans. The waiting around is a pain in the arse!

Hope everything turns out OK, both with the scan results and the insurance company

Re: Whinge about your day thread!

ok i think that enough time has passed from the serious whinge that i can bitch about stupid stuff again...

i'm absolutely broke and there's a band playing on thursday that i really want to see. (madball for any hardcore fans)

a local radio station is sponsoring part of the show and is also sponsoring a blood drive today. They're giving free tickets to the show if you give blood.

so yeah...I'm so broke I'm giving away a pint of blood to see a band i want to see.

@reasonsnotrules: Wow! Giving a pint of blood to go see your favorite band - now that's what I call being a fan!

I hope they're worth every drop!

Re: Whinge about your day thread!

haha i got my ticket and didn't even have to give blood! i got rejected during the screening. apparently my pulse was too high and i was running a fever of 100 degrees.

i had a coffee on the way there which probably accounts for my pulse...have no idea why my tmep was so high. but they gave me the ticket anyway. sweet deal.

and @haveacigar...i don't listen to crappy hardcore. madball is more in the "toughguy" genre. I'm more into the fast hardcore or "oldschool" sound and punk stuff from the 80s and early 90s, but I love madball for some reason.

it's VERY out of the ordinary for hardcore bands that i listen to to paly sponsored shows. they're opening for the dropkick murphys which are a lot milder and and poppier and appealing to teenage girls...i have a feeling that once madball plays there won't be anymore teenage girls alive to listen to DKM

Don't understimate this fever

I suggest you to do a control at regular intervals for some days. If you still have this fever, it's better to do a visit to your Doc

Re: Whinge about your day thread!

I've very pissed ....
My poor work PC (POS Dell) has been having a hard tme coping for the last few months, due to the massive amount of proggies I have running simulataneously ... so I finally get approval for a major upgrade ....

X2 3800 -> 1GB Corsair Ram -> WD 74GB @10KRPM -> Dual head video .....

It arrives .....
The video card does not have dual heads ... they try to palm me off with .. The mobo has an onboard video ....
Me: Not good enough. Replace the vid card.
I turn it on ... they stick a single 1GB ram dimm in ... WTF?
I order a gutsy machine ... and they decide to run in in single channel mode? Are they stupid? They try an palm me off with ... the performance difference is only small ... and the dual channel kit is much more expensive. Um .. it was on the quote .. and other shops cost $2 difference between a corsair single 1GB DDR2 dimm & 2x512MB matched pair.

WTF?

I get into windows ... no partitioning ... wtf?

Motherboard ... not as per quote .. no onboard firewire.
Hmmm ....

Should I be pissed or what?

So it's been sitting on the table opposite me, awaiting them to come over and correct the issues.
Grrrrr........ I hate computer shops. Come third after cars salesmen for honesty.

Used Car salesmen, New cars Salesmen, Computer Shops, lawyers .. and then criminals.

That's great news S_S, glad to hear you are fine. It's a damn shame that doctor's offices are like that, not all but alot.

Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air.

The truth can be found here http://jhtalisman.blogspot.com/

The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them-words shrink things that seemed limitless when in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while saying it. Re: Whinge about your day thread!

glad ot hear everything is okay S_S!!

@debro, I'd be PISSED. definitely make a list of every little thing that's wrong with it, and check EVERYTHING before you accept the replacement. does a delivery company deliver it or does the shop do their own deliveries? if the shop does it themselves, i would set it up before you let the guy leave in case there are any more issues...then again I'm a bitch like that.

Re: Whinge about your day thread!

I am losing patience with my Internet provider...Since this heatwave has started my DSL has been dropping out quite regularly and I've spent hours on hold and my DSL modem has been un-plugged more than it's been plugged in...
I have two 5/878 Mbs DSL lines and a 1.5/256 Wi-Max backup and the only one working has been the Wi-Max...
The highly qualified tech support people have informed me that the problem is my computer settings, yet they have failed to explain why BOTH DSL modems drop out at the same time and fail to negotiate and establish a connection...
The technician is due out this afternoon for the third time in three days, and he's positive the problem is on my end, and I'm sure it's not...
If only we had a competitive provider here...

Losing my net like that would do my head in....so I definitely feel for ya.

I'm unlucky and lucky...unlucky in that this is the only cable company in this area, and lucky because in 7 years of using them (both for dialup and broadband), they've been really good...downtime from their end is rare.

I can understand you too

Last year on as Christmas gift my provider cut me off my account because of an error made by them. And I was without an internet connection for more than a month and forced to use an old 56k modem

Re: Whinge about your day thread!

Everything is back up again at full speed...The Access Point, a large metal cabinet, was hot enough to bake bread in and they're still trying to figure a way to cool it...We had two techs, a supervisor and myself staring into this oven and proposing various solutions to the problem and I suggested that I could start freezing my cats and then rotate them in as required...
The looks...Priceless...

Re: Whinge about your day thread!

Sorry all, but TODAY, I get the whinge award. Yet again, my computer has been incredibly 'unstable' if thats the right word. It has not wanted to restart. Same old, starting, then the little blue bar getting stuck at the windows logo. It seems that every time i think ive sussed out the problem, another one rears its head. I think should start calling my computer, 'The Hydra'. Chop one head off and out pops another one. I mean i do enjoy the feeling of getting it all working again, but i really would just like to be able to say i built a computer that works without any problems. Granted, it's my first build, but still. Listening to a bit of Enya to chill the nerves back down before bed. You can laugh but i dont care For some reason i think the song 'may it be' from the lord of the rings kind of echoes the tales of woe that are me and my computer lol.

On top of that, i had to reactivate my windows xp pro OEM again. I hadnt really changed anything of significance. In my efforts to restore my computer to working condition, i disabled one of the two graphics cards, and fiddled with the overclock settings in the BIOS of my mobo, resetting the overclock profile to 'auto', 'none' etc. Cant think of anything else that might've done it.

Also uninstalled Norton internet security 2006 once and for all. Have nod32 installed atm. Seems quite quick to start up which is cool. I am starting to wonder whether saving my money longer and getting a 7950 GX2 would have given me fewer issues as its only using one PCI instead of 2 with my two 7900gt's.

Anyway, its almost 1am. im so glad to have everything working again. Thing is I still only have 4 startup processes set to run at startup. I cant be bothered to go through a process of elimination right now at least.

Another event today, not sure if the problem is still there. I couldnt get my 1650 to write at 16x with cd/dvd speed. BCHC was giving the dreaded speed dips and producing crap results, who wudv thought. So i went back to bcdc, and there was the problem with no 16x burning. I tried dvd decrypter too, and only 12x. Was using MCC 004. Wasnt a problem with cpu or buffer as shown by cd/dvd speed. I then tried disabling sb for known media, and disabling wopc, and it seems to work. Still havent sorted that problem out yet either as am not sure whether it will work if i enable wopc and try to burn at 16x.
