Welcome to the All In One CDFreaks Living Room F.A.Q

Welcome to the All In One CDFreaks Living Room F.A.Q

What is this place?
This is the Living Room.

In here you can discuss all of the subjects that don’t fit in the other forums. If there is something that you want to discuss then start a thread and let’s hear from you. Just about anything goes.

The Living Room was set-up for members to have more contact with one another in a social way. If you browse the forum you will see a lot of discussions, plenty of polls and some of the strangest posts that you will have come across. Many are meant to be serious but others are just there for some fun. Most you will notice have nothing to do with computers and even less to do with optical storage.

Anything? Seriously, whatever I want?
Near enough. We’re not too strict on threads staying on topic in the Living Room however; we do expect the members to use some common sense. For example. For some of the more serious threads in the Living Room forum, please allow the thread to evolve. What may seem trivial to you could mean a lot to the thread creator.

We also have certain general rules that must be followed. They were in the General Agreement that you accepted. You know the one. That’s right, the one that you went “I don’t want to read all of that stuff. Where’s the I Agree button”

The only thing you really need to keep in mind is that there are a lot of different people here with all kinds of different beliefs, humour, religions and a whole lot more. You also need to keep in mind, we were all newbies once, so please show newbies the same respect as you would expect to receive yourself.

What about members with thousands and thousands of posts?
Don’t go worrying about them. They're just like your uncle’s old flea bitten dog. They have been around for years but they won’t harm a small child. If anything they want some new members to share their interests and thoughts with.

Political issues
Currently we have an increasing amount of political minded people on our forum. We don't mind as we believe in freedom of speech, but there are some additional rules to the general ones when discussing these subjects.
  • Moderators and Administrators should remain neutral, if they don't, send a Private Message to DoMiN8ToR
  • No bad language
  • Check your facts before you post
  • No personal flaming
  • If you are getting too much involved, leave the thread alone, or we will force you

Please mind that we have many people from many nationalities on this board and that things that don't look offensive to you, might be offensive to others. Also note that your views might look the right ones from your point of view, but might change in a different situation. Please keep an eye on this, it should be possible to discuss these kinds of subject, but if not we will have to limit the freedom of speech and we will no longer allow political related issues, (something we would deeply regret).

What General Agreement?
If you registered with CDFreaks then you accepted it. If you missed it the first time then you can find it here.

This forum is not meant to be a place where you can let loose on all of the things that turn you into the next Hulk. Sure tell us things about you and what happens to you but remember not everyone will care.

Imagine you're sitting in your living room and your having all the CDFreaks forum users over for lunch. 33% of them do not understand you, 33% of them agree, 33% of them disagree and 1% is the CDFreaks staff, moderators and admins who advise and moderate you from time to time. But remember we all love beer and we are all here to have fun.

Anything else?
Let’s see….

The Living Room is divided into a couple of sections for you to enjoy. They are,
  • Rylex Blindwrite Comics: A selection of Garfield comics altered to lampoon BlindWrite.
  • News: Here you can add or discuss items that might interest other members from around the globe.
  • CD Freaks Distributed Computing Team Forum: Here you can read about and/or participate in any of the CD Freaks Distributed Computing Teams, helping cure life threatening diseases.

I want more?
If you want more then we will give you more.

We also have an IRC channel. Here you can meet some of the locals from the forum. There are even less rules observed in chat. So just come on in and chew the fat a little.

To join use on IRC you will need a program such as mIRC, Gaim or even ChatZilla for FireFox.

If you don't want to download and install a new program then you can also do it from inside your current web browser. To do this you will need to follow one of the following links.

http://chat.ircnet.org/
http://webchat.xs4all.nl/cgi-bin/ircnet/irc.cgi
http://www.irc.cz/cgi-bin/irc.cgi

Some of these work in certain countries and not in others. Just try them all until you find one that works.

Whichever way you choose to join us you will also need to enter some details to get in. These will be,
  • Your nickname - You may have to play around with your name if it has already been taken.
  • Channel - #cdfreaks (for Dutch) or #cdfreaks-int (For English)

If you are having some trouble then you can consult the Chat with other CDFreaks thread and in particular with the webchat this post

Finally
So that’s it. Come on in, have some fun and post a little.
