Retail DVD is poorly burned copy

I picked up a Derby County DVD up for my daughters freind (its a present for her dad) today, it was brought from the offical shop next to the football ground so its not some pirated copy of ebay. i had a look at it when i got home as the DVD case was not sealed and couldn`t belive it, the disc is a burned DVD not Pressed. so i put it my pc and the disc is a MCC02 with a thermal type label. so just out of curiosity i tested the disc in kprobe and nero cd speed, and the results were prety poor for saying this SL DVD cost £14.99 and will probebly stick on play back towards the end of disc and getting a lot worse in a few months.

the least they could have done was to make a decent burn and put a protective layer on the burned side!.

please post your comments, or simular experiances

Re: Retail DVD is poorly burned copy

I would make a copy and return it! F*^k that, pay $14.99 for some fubaar half assed crap burn! I would make a copy with my best reader drive, and return it and say it wouldn't play! Which even a decent DVD player won't play it perfectly. That's a bunch of BS, selling burnt disks as if they're manufactured DVDs. That's just me though, if you feel so obligated to be honest with such a sheister, so be it. Maybe a good drive can keep the file's integrity if you copy the video_ts folder to the hard drive first. I would make a copy regardless of if you're going to keep it or not, because as you said, in a couple months that disk will be a coaster! I can't stand the companies that think stuff like that is OK.

Hang on a minute, this guys sold you a pirate copy. He might be an 'official store' but he's broken the law big time. People at home doing all sorts of illegal things dont compare with this prick.

Although this would make me (us ) do something illegal, I would do the same.

Make a copy, go back and return it.
If the make problems, tell them you can easily proof it's a burned copy and that they broke the law and can get serious problems if they are gonna play it hard.

What a bunch of losers.

is it a pirate copy just because it`s been burned to disc and not pressed? like i said it was brought from the offical club shop which is part of the stadium (see attatchment).

i have made an iso image of the disc on my harddrive, and are defenetly going to complaine about the quality of the disc and would like to know how the law stands on this matter here in the UK.

just to add that the disc comes in a normal DVD case with printed cover and no booklet with disc contents being 1 football match and high lights of another lasting for 115mins.

Re: Retail DVD is poorly burned copy

Alot of smalltime publishers burn on DVDR
But take it back and yell at him anyway and say that the copy froze on your player.

That's a complete load of shit. I just did a quick online search and you can get 1000 pressed disks starting at a little over 1000$ US (some places would do as little as 500 but didn't list prices). Selling 40 disks would pay for a production run of 1000 disks. My guess is they just contracted to have the disks duplicated and didn't realize what they were getting. I would defanatly return with the disk and explain to them exactly what they sold you and is's quality for 28$ (after you copy it of course).

Re: Retail DVD is poorly burned copy

my friend got this skating dvd once, it came with two discs, the first disc was the feature itself, the second disc was a pirate copy. basically the people who made it put in a pirate copy (it was a pressed disc though) of the film being filmed at its premiere, it stated "this is to sell on to your friends to get some of the money back that you payed for this dvd"!
