Well with Kenny posting about his divorce and such..I thought I would give a little personal information about yours truly.....
December my father was placed in the hospital .....and he was there during christmas and the new years..... on Jan 10th the doctors gave us the news we dreaded to hear...he had but 2 weeks left....if that long...so we were asked if we wanted to place him in the Sanctuary Hospice House http://www.sanctuaryhospicehouse.com/ where he could get nurses and staff to help keep him comfortable around the clock....so we agreed that day and we spent the next 10 days in the house....me nor my mom ever left during his stay..but while he was there...he had already slipped into a coma and on the friday before he passed on monday ..he woke up at like 1 in the morning and started talking and knew where he was.....he spent a few hours with my mom alone....and the he asked her to go get me.....I crawled up in the bed with him and we cried and talked for hours.....what do you tell your hero when you and he know that he has just a few days left??? other than the I love yous and I'll be ok ....anyway ..the hardest thing i have ever done in my life was tell him goodbye.....he talked and talked and talked that night...told us all his last wishes...and then he slipped back into a coma.....by monday he was gone ......

now bringing you to current.....i've had problems recently with my heartrate going out of whack....i've been hooked up to a home monitor and my resting heart rate is staying around 150......and during activites it had gone so high that the monitor started double counting.(? I have no idea what that means) my doctor wants to give me a shot to STOP my heart and see if it will restart on its own in a normal fashion .....or if this is something more serious....I really am not to sure about him STOPPING it....sounds like it might not start back........
he thinks it could be many factors that has it elevated....stress being the prime one....and my medications that i take the other...sooooo i always thought i was on the hyper side..i guess my organs are as well.....

now you know way more about me than you ever cared to know..

I wonder if some dark chocolate would relax me... i'll go try that and see....love ya all ..and you know I mean it...

Sorry to hear about this. My heart occasionally goes haywire to. The doctor calls it attakacardia or something (I know I butchered that ) It sounds a little to close to heart attack if you ask me. Hope everything works out well, and here's a present :

*On the medical side*

My heartbeat is around 78 (the year I was born) at rest, sometimes 82, depending on my stress level.

It goes up to approx 130 when I'm exercising, and it takes about 3 minutes to return to normal after about 5 minutes quick run, for the train. It reaches about 150 when playing Doom3 Therefore doom3 is better than actual exercise

My lowest blood pressure is a tad higher than most peoples average (eek), but my maximum is well within below normal limits for my age group, so all is good.

Stress is very bad. At the end of the day, it's the end of the day. Deal with it tomorrow

Sorry to hear things are not going well heath wise for you. I had similar problems back when I hurt my back. My heart rate was around 120-130 resting and my blood presure was about 170/130 resting for months. It was mostly being caused by extreme pain and stress. What this doctor wants to try sounds a little fishy. Stoping your heart isn't a big deal (there are plenty of procedures where they stop your heart and it is pretty safe if done in a hospital where there are proper resources if there are complications). What sounds off is it seems he isn't even sure what is causing it, and is blindlly trying something to fix it. If you don't eliminate what is causing it, it might just come back. If you don't know what is causing it, then you don't know if there is something present that might make it hard for them to restart your heart. If the cause is known, and there is an established proceedure of stoping your heard to counter it, then you should be able to find information on this being done and read up on it. If not, then I would defanatlly get a second and if nesasary a third opinion. Most importantlly, try to find what is causing it. If it is stress, try to do things to reduce your stress, even if it takes medication (if that wont conflict with whatever the medication you are taking now is). Doctors make plenty of mistakes, and use plenty of procedures that might not be in your best interest. You cannot just inherentlly trust them. If you are not seeing a heart specialist I would go see one. Hopefully you have insurance. That was the problem when I hurt my back. I had insurance but it was being bounced between workmans comp and medical. It took a good year and a half fighting them to get surgery paid for (and it nearlly killed me).
I hope it all works out and let me know if I can be of any help. Just be carfull with them doctors. Anything as major as stopping your heart deserves a second opinion from a heart specialist. good luck.....

When my grandma was about to die i had the very fortunate possiblity to say goodbye to her. We both knew we weren't going to see each other ever again. We were both at peace. "As long as you're not in pain i'm okay with it grandma".

Thinking back i still think that is one of the most peaceful ways to "go". If i had not had the chance to say goodbye to her i would have taken a lot longer to get my mental system at ease.

This is no excuse or helping at all, but just my point of experiences.

I think the doctor concluded your heart has an irregular or noisy hear rythm. One of the best solutions is to actually stop the heart beat and let the heart itself restart.

Defibrillators (the jumper cables) do the same thing. It's a common myth that defibrillators make your heart start up, but they just do the opposite! They stop the irregular heart beat and give the body a chance to come up with a nice heart beat again.


In my (so don't sue me please) opinion if you feel healthy. stay the hell away from the hospital. If you feel ill, then start treatment.

If it is an iregular heart rythem then stoping your heart would certainly be a normal and established way to try to corect it. It kind of sounded like the doctor wasn't sure what the cause was and perhaps I took that to mean he didn't completlly know what the problem was. Perhaps you should ask him to explain more about what the problem is and why stopping your heart might fix it. I would still get a second opinion though. Doctors can be wrong sometimes.

Indeed they can be wrong, and unless you are in the emergency room and would die in the time it would take to get a second opinion, I would always recommend getting a second opinion when dealing with serious health issues.

My sister suffered from tachycardia due to heart damage from the stress of emphysema caused by smoking. She underwent a procedure where they inserted an implant (not a pacemaker) of some sort that keeps her heart rate down. If you’re interested I could find out what it is.

Thanks for everyone's concern.....that is so sweet of all you...just a quick update..I go to a heart specialist tomorrow and get his opinion...which i'd feel a bit more comfortable than just using a General Practicioner..i've tried to do all i can with my diet....(no soda...no coffee..and no caffeine.....) so i'm kinda on the sweet to bitch nightmare ride from 0.3 seconds i just wish this was already ...over and done with i hate..waiting....grrrrrr i'm impatient as heck....but anyhoo...i'll let ya know what the doc says....about my ticker....

he said it was mild tachycardia and prescribed Digoxin for me to take....
plus i have this monitor to check my rate and chart it throughout the day.....

and he told me if it gets to a certain number to call his emergency number and he would give me instructions about what to do....

and i get to see him in 2 weeks!!!

Hey SS, no fooling around with that young hansom doctor till you get your ticker fixed (then again, you are in good hands if you are with him and something hapens to get your blood preasure up, at least there is a doctor near by, lol).

I'm pretty sure I have that too, it doesn't really ever bother me. I don't even have to take meds . I'm sure you will be fine, just take care of yourself .

I had a very similar experience with both parents...Not the heart but the dreaded "Big C". Mum went for 3 months from diagnosis to death...horrible painful death. Don't believe anyone when they tell that "modern palliative care obliterates pain"...CRAP! I watched as my sweet, strong, yet gentle, fantastic mum was eaten away by the cancer and the chemo. The chemo. killed her...sudden opening of gastric ulcer caused by buffered aspiring used to "assist chemo.".
Dad had primary liver cancer. Discovered by accident during CAT scan. Saved by resection operation, lasted another 2 years. His last hours much like your dad's. Slippped into a deep morphine-induced coma in the last 5 hours. I sat by the bed with him all the way through...I told him it was okay for him to go. I couldn't bear seeing him in pain...morphine stopped working, you see. Finally the Doctor felt Dad needed a bit more morphine above what was going in via the delivery pump...might help with the Cheyne-Stokes breathing, he said. I know why he did it...it was to help Dad on his way, and for that, I thank him. Dad came out of the coma for the last 5 breaths of his life, looked at me and gripped my hand tightly, then he was gone. I loved that man so much. Now life is very empty. I've had tacychardia too. Also had the all-day monitor on...diagnosis: stress and depression. Treatment...up the dose of Effexor, stop work as a teacher...career over after 25 years. I understand and empathize, SS.
