Thanks for the CD-RW tip. I guess the same applies for DVD+/-RWs - look for holes.

As for Acronis TrueImage, the program allows you to create a boot CD and use this to boot up the computer. Then you can restore an image of the OS partition previously backed up on another partition or hard disk. No problem at all.
