I found this thread in a google search.
I am very impressed with the speed and quality of Recode2 mp4 files.
I am in the same boat as FredStone... I am looking for a way to get excellent quality video into my Archos AV300. After reading Fred's reply, I had my doubts, but I trudged on anyways....
I used Recode2 to create the 352x256 mp4 file of a DVD i created using Pinnacle Impression DVD Pro... therefore it did not require ripping. Next, using the MP4UI program, I was able to create a video only AVI file that played back beautifully on the AV300. I was not expecting it to work...
This morning I used XMPEG to extract the audio from the DVD to a 128kbps cbr Lame MP3 file. Then I was able to combine the avi and mp3 tracks via the direct stream copy mode using NanDub. The resultant avi file played back great in my AV300.
Has anyone else been trying to figure out this same puzzle?
I am still not sure if it is worth all the extra effort, since the latest versions of FairUse and AutoGK work extremely well. I guess this method is for all those die hards that used to rip DVDs prior to the
DVD2One generation of software...
