Well now I've tried it at 2x and still nothing. I brought up the whole issue because a friend of mine can erase the same 80min Memorex CDRWs (from the same box as mine) without problem on his Mitsumi burner and we've tried the entire box.

At this point I'm thinking maybe the LiteOn just doesn't recognize this brand and media and would require a firmware update, but considering that the drive has been out for a while and several firmware updates have already been released to recognize more media, I'm surprised this one still doesn't work.
