Nope, never used Plextools, did not know about the image format, don't know any other tools who can write that image...

I am not sure if starting CloneCD is already enough before inserting the cd, I would recommend to start CloneCD, select your reader, open your tray of your reader, insert protected audio cd, click "next" to create the image, CloneCD will now close the tray for you.
