Blu Burner or Standard ?

Greetings CDfreaks member,

I'm policeman, i've been lurking here reading for a atleast a few years now. I've learned alot. I've been backing up my stuff for a long time now. I've used and still use some, DVDShrink, Autogk, Handbrake, Super, DVDFab, imgburn, etc.

Now i've hit a wall. My wife bought me a cheap (use this term loosely) HD camcorder for fathers day. The very expensive Aiptek ActionHD. It takes great daytime video and pretty good photos if you have a steady hand, no image stabilization is a drawback and the night mode is not that good, anyways.....

Aiptek video records in .mov files. I've figured out this is a quicktime format (i think). Here's the problem, I can't edit them w/ windows movie maker in .mov format. I have to convert them to avi files and loose quality. I'm not wanting to do this. I want to edit then burn them to a standard dvd, which i can't figure out how to do or if it's even possible.

So the reason i'm in this particular part of the forum is that i'm considering buying an blu-ray burner, in particular the LG GGCH20L, it's a little high would like to spend $250.00 or less though.

Will I be able to "drag and drop" the .mov files onto a blank blu-ray disc with say imgburn or nero? Will the included software (cyberlink?) allow me to edit the .mov files like movie maker?
* Will the blu burner allow me to burn .mov or any hd video to a standard dvd? And if so do standard dvd players read hd video off of standard 4.7 dvds? You know since the media is on a standard disc?

Since blu burners have been out a while now, how's the "back up" software for you personal purchased blu-rays? Easy two step methods like dvdfab to shrink (imgburn)?

Could I convert the .mov files to another HD format and then burn them to blu or standard?

And lastly, what's the cheapest blu burner?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions, but there all somewhat related....
