Two pass optimises the bitrate more effectively and allocates more to where it's needed. Wombler | Ah ok. So really, 2 pass is essential if I don't want to encode crap basically is what it sounds like. Thanks for explaining. I actually need to explain this to a buddy of mine as well, who's been trying to convince me otherwise and has slacked off with his own encodes.
I'm guessing there must be quite a pony race between the codec heavyweights looking to improve this area. Would be nice to have a single pass that did it all someday.
