| Re: Windows xp sp3 thread "UPGRADED" -- SP3 -- my HP PENTIUM 4 desktop but not without problems. A few weeks ago, I successfully upgraded my two laptops with no problem. I failed at boot time with the desktop (not an AMD). So I reverted back. Today I tried again. Found the problem. With my external WD 500Gb MY BOOK drive plugged into the firewire port, no boot. I unplugged it and I booted, plugged it back in (don't think the system recognized it) but then the system would not shut down. AAUUUUGH! Well, I unplugged it, rebooted, and changed the cord to a USB cord and now everything works fine using the USB port for the WD drive.
So, beware of an external WD MY BOOK drive in a firewire port if you "upgrade" to SP3. Too bad I had to use up a USB port to get it working.
