I've been in contact with Fengtao many times in the past year about the
issue with 98, and after trying all of his suggestions, nothing I do can
stop the crashes. I just gave up and installed the newer versions on
my XP box. I even offered to send him a motherboard, cpu and ram to
test with, but he never replied back. I assume he is running a VM inside
XP, which is not the same as running SE on physical hardware alone.


If anyone here has Version 4 or 5 fine running on a 98SE unit, please detail
all hardware and software used, so we can start a database of what works
and doesn't. I have a feeling that the issue is chipset related; I tried 2
different SE units; while the motherboards were different, they both used the same chipset.
