Ok so you connect PS3 to TV via HDMI and PS3 to AV Receiver via optical.
First, update your PS3 with the latest firmware 2.30 from:
Settings > System Update. (I hope you've setup the built in wireless connection)
Still under Settings, set BD/DVD settings as follow:
BD/DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI) = Bitstream
BD Audio Output Format (Optical Digital) = Bitstream
This will ensure that the PS3 bitstream high definition audio (especially DTS-HD Master Audio) to your Yamaha RX-V1500 as DTS core multichannel.
