| Re: ImgBurn 2.4.1.0 "Verify" error - discs dodged? Good morning.
Interesting read on those links. I myself thought of a hardware problem initially (again, hence my topic in first place) but WHY does the problem NOT occur when i use the older ImgBurn version?? THAT is what makes me think it can only be with the software.
I DID use one of those tools mentioned a longer time ago to reset some stuff in the drive (can't remember when exactly that was, back then i had the problem of getting coasters when burning the then-new 16x Verb's at 4x, i was advised that those won't handle that speed and i should go 8x, never had that problem since) but yeah, the current problem started with the very first disc burned by ImgBurn 2.4.1.0 and now, as i am back on the older version (granted - only a single one disc tested) seems to be gone again. This fact seems to be conveniently overlooked by everyone - so i state it in an extra paragraph:
Problem present in newer ImgBurn version. Problem NOT present in older ImgBurn version, even AFTER the failure with the newer and reverting BACK to the older.
So IF there is something messed up in the drive itself, could it be that ImgBurn 2.3.2.0 just ignores whatever error that is in the drive and just keeps on chugging, while the newer 2.4.1.0 requires this particular "thing" inside the drive to function 100%? If that is the case, still (at least for me) the older version is better.
I currently have no spare $$ to go and buy a new burner "just because" and RMA is no option - we get only 6 months warranty for these things and the drive is older than that.
And regarding the software author being present, while i appreciate it dearly i also have the experience that software authors tend to blame just about anything in the world for failures of their software except the simple fact that there is a bug in their program. While just about every piece of software (including firmware) most certainly has bugs, the creators of such software often simply refuse to accept that and blame everything from weak PSU's to the earth's rotation for the resulting errors.
I have now re-installed 2.4.1.0 and wil;l disable the mentioned setting, then burn a disc to see what happens. Will let you know.
Best regards......
