It's not a verification error, it's a problem with the drive initialising the disc - hence why it's reporting it as DVD+RW and not DVD+R (and why the write speeds are messed up).

The L-EC error reported by the Read command (as part of the Verify function) probably comes from it using the wrong laser power or something because it thinks is a DVD+RW... I dunno, I don't deal with that side of things.
