It's an odd problem but I honestly can't see how it can be anything ImgBurn is doing. It's a drive problem, period.

Unless you find the real cause, you'll be stuck on the old version forever - which of course has it's own problems and lacks all the features found only in newer ones.

The only difference I can't really think of that *might* be making a difference is the 'DVD+R Reserve Track' option in the Settings on the Write tab.

It's disabled by default on v2.3.2.0 and enabled by default on v2.4.1.0

So try 2.4.1.0 again with it disabled and let me know how you get on.
