Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

OK, I've saved up a wishlist of 7 items created while I've been starting to convert our DVD collection to play on our appleTV and iPods.

1. Automatic iTunes import -- just like emusic remote (and I think they've posted their code here: http://developer.emusic.com/ ) so that as soon as the iPod or appletv conversion is done, it's added to my libarary

2. Configurable titling and metadata rules within profiles - this would mean things like conversion to title case from the all uppercase and the joy of not having to remove ".DVDRip" every time. Emusic and alltunes (alltunes.com) both have good models for this where you might say something like "%Vc %Tn - Commentary" to have the First Title from "CONTROL ROOM" DVD default to "Control Room 1 - Commentary" as the default title (and filename).

3. Smart Resume. When I run into a scratched disk that doesn't error during Full Disc copy until it's nearly complete and only a file or two remains to be compied, it would really be nice to be able to tell DVDfab to suspend at that file, let me eject the disc for cleaning, and overwrite only the last (incomplete) output file instead of having to start from scratch. In a perfect world, the DVD driver would let me suspend, clean, and resume without having to involve DVDfab but you know that will never happen.

4. While I love the new cropping feature, I'd like to be able to automatically skip auto cropping if less than 12 horizontal or vertical lines are sensed. Autosensing just a few lines generally results in lower overall quality than just leaving a few extra blank lines in.

5. Within the ipod (and other mobile conversions that support only 1 audio stream), I'd like to be able to (a) see what audio I selected in the configure screen (just like I can see title/angle) and (b) select multiple audio tracks which then create multiple title configuration lines on the next screen (so I can rip a lo-res commentary version in the same session as the main title without having to come back after it's done or re-open the same folder--which you can't do if you're doing it directly from the DVD)

6. Support for queued work for up to 100 disks/files per session. After queueing up work on about 8 or 10 or 12 DVD discs or files, some kind of limit is reached and the next one can't be "read" and pulls up the error dialog. Unfortunately, that often results in DVDfab crashing as well, so I try to keep to 7 or less so I don't have to start over and I exit and restart DVDfab between sessions. Some data structures need to be expanded (or at least have proper error handling)

7. Allow the "Automatically shut down the PC when done" feature to be fully disabled. Even though I never check the box, I've had 3.0.2.0 shut down my computer 3 times in the last week. I've noticed that it will sometimes do this if I accidently start up a 2nd instance if there's already one running, but it's annoying as hell, particularly when it shuts down a fileserver. I would just as soon be able to set something that never allowed shutdown to happen.

6. Audio sync fixer. It would be nice to be able to adjust the audio sync for titles that consistently generate sync issues. Here are a few DVDs and titles that have given me this problem:

Casanova (main feature only)
Zathura (main Feature)
The Sentinel (16x9 group of deleted scenes - doesn't happen with the 4x3 group and the main feature is fine)
An Unfinished life (main feature only)
Requiem for a Dream (not director's cut version of this DVD - main feature)

While the sync is clearly a DVDfab bug since the titles play in other DVD players just fine, at least this would give us a workaround.
