If the former, any drive but Lite-On (I've never had one of their drives last longer than 6 months before dying in any number of ways). The LG GGC-H20L will allow you to watch both Blu-ray and
HD DVD movies. With HD DVD in the dumper, you can score some pretty sweet deals on a lot of great movies that haven't been released yet on Blu-ray.
If you're looking for a set-top player, you can do one of two things: purchase a PS3 now or wait until Blu-ray Profile 2.0 players become widely available. The PS3 will support BDP 2.0 via a software update. Other standalone players that are on shelves right now do not and never will. Hardcore videophiles will argue the whole game console vs. standalone as high-def player. But I've been completely content with my PS3's performance. The fact that it plays games, too, is a bonus.
