I think this should be a sticky. I owned a TV repair shop for 8 years. I have visited many people homes who ask me why they can't play HiDef on their LCD/Plasma displays. I tell them HDCP, they say HD-What?. I can't believe how many displays are sold that are not compatible and the sales people (if they know) never mention HDCP, gotta move that old stock. By the way, when you back up a movie HDCP is no longer an issue as it is copyright protection that turns it on. That has been my experience, though that may have changed, I don't know.
