I did the uninstall but did not reinstall Platinum. I uninstalled all USB drivers and had XP reinstall them again and I updated the DVD burner firmware. I didn't download ImgBurn either.
I ended up having to reinstall XP because whatever happened, it was bad enough that I couldn't even burn a simple CD unless I dropped the burn speed down. The Nero logs kept showing a 'fixation error' until I dropped the speed. I still couldn't burn a DVD even after all the previous uninstalling. I got so fed up I just reinstalled XP, Nero,
DVDFab Decrypter and DVD Shrink. Those were the only apps I had on the system anyway because it's dedicated to DVDs. I was back in business an hour or so later. After that I was successfully burning DVDs again.
