I'll probably get a 805 as soon as one goes to a stupid price and I have a couple of good weeks for money

Or something like it anyways, always liked the way the 777 sounds. The reviews for it when it was new were very positive, it had more power then the other similarly rated receivers and it was THX certified back when that was pretty rare, plus it does sound good, and has been dead reliable.
My Sony 2070 had a much nicer display and also had a SWEET sounding amp but didn't have DTS or any of the newer things like that when I got my first dvd player so I replaced it with the Onkyo and was happy with it.
The other great thing about the Sony was it had a real time spectrum analyzer type display that would display 30 to 20 KHZ like a scope waveform so you knew exactly what kind of audio was getting pumped out to the speakers. I learned what was really low bass just by watching when the lower half got busy, instead of being fooled by heavy 60 hz. I wish some of the other good company's would do things like that again, as well as make a nice amp section. I know it was just a bell and whistle type thing but I found it very usefull, plus it was fun to look at. It also had a 3 band paramatric Equalizer which was much more usefull then just simple bass and treble tone controls. If I could get those features on a Onkyo it would be perfect...
