Not when it comes to burn quality anyway.
Burners connection/ bus really doesn't matter bacause the burn commands sent to drive are all the same for; parallel, SCSI, ATA, SATA, or whatever drives.

I've the same experience.
When it come to questionable media, ie. "the ones not recommended by our senior members", NEC and Nexperia chipset drives still burn them at best.
