I didn't pay a lot of attention to that portion of the tutorial. You may have to watch it quite a few times, or check a few in front of it, to see if you missed something. Some of them did flow from one to the next. Sounds like you need to select your Project selection on the timeline... I can't remember offhand just how to do that.
