Re: Opening Backup DVD on Computer

Hi again nwchicago2,

Appreciate you posting the burn logs.
One of the problems with trying to interpret the data is that you have so many variables...
3 burners:
sony DRU-840A (supposedly DL burns supported up to 12X)
sony DRU-830A (up to 8x)
samsung TS-H652L (up to 4X)
(I haven't looked at your respective firmwares.)

Cybmole mentioned that your burn speeds are all over the place...

The media is really the only consistent item and the reliablity (consistency) of Ritek S-04 is poor, so unfortunately, this is a variable too.

Do you have many of these S-04 discs left?

Do any of the discs displayed in your log play ok in your pc?
Do all of them play in your standalone player?
The only error that I saw pop up was with the samsung...an illegal address...only writing a 4.26 GB file to DL media, the LB located at 3.13 GB?

As others said, highly recommend buying Verbatim +R DL
For 2.4X - 4X (MKM 001), be certain to look on the label....it needs to be MIS = made in singapore
and not MII = made in India = crap

Verbatim +R DL 8X...to 10X (MKM 003) are only MIS so these are ok
I've had trouble finding the MKM 001 MIS so I've sucuumbed to buying the MKM 003 myself.

I've had good luck burning these on my samsung 203B at 8X, but required some experimentation on my part, no surprise there...
Interestingly, I can't get MKM 003 to burn suuceessfully on my liteon LH-20A1S which had been rock solid with MKM 001 at 4X.

For now, I'd stay with the 840A, especially for the faster DL media (MKM 003) and burn these at 6-8X, 8x is fine, but select it as your burn speed.
Don't let the software choose.
If you find some of the MKM 001 MII, choose 4X for your burn speed.
