Re: Why You Should Dump Internet Explorer

Netscape is pretty much a dead issue thanks to YOL (Yuppies On Line), er AOL. There are IE skin add ons that use IEs' core engine with a different user interface (I think that is the correct description), but it is still IE w/ all the bloat and security holes.

1. Opera is the only browser that includes a e-mail client. It's onlt a plain text cleint, but that is ok with me. Why run two program when one works. There is one downside; ytou have to leave all the mail in the "Received" folder. They can't be moved elsewhere as with separate e-mail programs. If you save most of your e-mail, that will be a problem.

2. It has a very hightly configable separate .ini file that can now be edited within the browser in a web page instead of using Notepad as had to be done in V8 and before.

3. All the files are stored in the Opera program folder, NOT buried under that stupid 'Documents & Settings folder as long as you check that there will be only one user durning setup.

4. Cache, history, cookies can be deleted on exit. Passwords (called Wand data) are a separate file which is unaffected unless you want then deleted also.

5. It is fully W3C compliant. (I believe Firefox is also). Doubt you can say this about Idiot Exploiter. If a site doesn't work in Opera, that fault is the site, NOT Opera.

6. It's not IE. And since it isn't IE, there are far less security concerns since virus coders don't bother with it since they can achive a bigger 'payload' from IE.
