It's fair to say that ANY of the new AVRs operate a lot like a PC, with more settings than you can count. The good news is that they are smart, and the default settings will work for most folks. I had to read my 661 manual at least 3 times to get a handle on all of it.
One of the really intriguing things about this new batch of Yamahas is a new feature called "Adaptive dynamic range control". It's an optional setting, and what it does is decrease the dynamic range when the volume is lower, and increase it at higher volume. It replaces a previous setting called "Night Mode".
