About two days ago I was making a backup copy of one of my Star Trek boxed sets. I cleaned every disc with a dab of eyeglass cleaner and a soft cloth before proceeding to burn them. The first two copied perfectly. The third was apparently riddled with bad sectors according to OneClickDVD, although it played flawlessly on my Dvd player and after cleaning it there was nothing but a few surface scratches remaining.
Seeing as there was very little I could do. I proceeded to burn the disc anyway hoping that a few bad sectors here or there would not ruin the entire DVD. 1click Dvd proceeded to begin burning, but upon requesting blank media for the copy froze up and crashed my entire system forcing me to perform a hard restart of my machine.
Since that time Every single Dvd I have tried to burn, even newly bought as yet unopened ones, have according to one click dvd had bad sector after bad sector. I don't understand what could possibly have happened. I have since yesterday switched from
DVD43 to AnyDVD 6.3.1.5
I have also upgraded to OneClick DVD 5.4.2.6
I have used a Dvd laser lens cleaning CD on the drives and have also unmounted them and blown through the assembly with compressed air.
The problem persists no matter what I seem to try.
I have even considered performing a firmware update on both the drives but have not yet proceeded to that point.
I run a video production business from my home and as such rely heavily on my DVD burners for dvd authoring/burning and copying.
I can not believe that both the drives would somehow simultaneously fail especially since the entire system I now use was built less than 5 months ago. If anyone can help I welcome the suggestions/ advice
If it turns out that I must replace both the drives, then I would also appreciate any recommendations you might have concerning DVD burners that can handle high volumes of burning without breaking down after a few months of use.

Try Refreshing Your IDE/DVD Drivers
( same procedure for Resetting a 'stubborn" DMA )

Empty your CD/DVD Drives
Go to >
>> Start > Right Click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware Tab
>> Device Manager
Click the + to Open the IDE ATA ATAPI Controllers
Right Click on the IDE Channel > Properties > Advanced Tab
The First Primary IDE Should read @ Ultra DMA Mode 5
This is Correct = It's your Hard Drive
> Either a Secondary IDE OR a 'Second' Primary IDE
Should have Two Devices ( DVD/CD Drives )
Each Device Should be reading Ultra DMA mode 2
( Depending on the DVD Drive - One might read : Ultra DMA mode 4 )
This will be the 'corresponding' IDE Channel - supporting your DVD/CD Drives
If it instead Reads : PIO ...... Yes , that's the one you're looking for
Even though It may be 'reading' DMA correctly ;
Follow these instructions
> Go into your Device Manager
> UN install Any/
All DVD/CD Drives ( Yes , IF : Both Drives )
> Right Click on Drive > Select=UNinstall
#### Do not restart Yet #####
> UN install the corresponding IDE Channel
> Right Click on IDE Channel , Select=UNinstall
>
Now REboot
>> REboot
again
This will force the Reinstall of DVD Device Drivers - Refreshing the Drivers
- which may correct any 'communication' issues/corruption
If for some reason your DMA is 'out-of-whack'
- The above will fix that too
At any rate ; It won't hurt
- It may correct any Drive Communication Issues
At the First sign of any trouble .
this is usually the first thing I'll do .
You may have just left in a "Skipping Bad Sector"/ CRC error for too long

I might suspect that you may have a "Bad" Source Disc ( ? )
..... so let's get that - out of the way -
Inspect the Disc and try cleaning it - even if it doesn't look like it needs it.
If this doesn't prove successful ...
Use the
VSOInspector to scan the Disc ( it's Free )
http://www.vso-software.fr/products/.../inspector.php Scan with BOTH "Surface Scan" and "File Test"
If the Inspector reports "READ Errors"
Then you'll know that you've come across a "BAD" Source Disc .
I would then suggest that you acquire a different copy
... and compare your results .

Please Post a >> F8 log session of the attempt(s) ....
Let us read the 'process' and 'error' in context
- and your options - selected
Open 1Click >> F8 >> Copy and Paste in Reply
Look for :
"***Session Started***" / "***Session Closed***"
- to divide the individual sessions
Post one "Complete" Session per Reply Post
One or Two "Session(s)" in question should suffice
If the One Session is too long - Divide the Session into Two Postings
