Philips is just a brand name. What's important is the Manufacturing ID (MID) and your posted MID is just mediocre. Your drive's firmware is B9S3, which is very old I think. The latest one is BS0Y. You can download the firmware here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1934 Make sure there's no media in the drive before upgrading. Latest firmware often supports more media types, better writing strategies, and bug fixes.

Are you burning to DVD-RW just for testing? You may want to test burning to DVD+R to see if everything goes smoothly. The recommended media are Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden - very reliable and good quality.
