I get 20mb downstream, and granted my upstream is "only" 768kbps - a tad less than US folks can get but is quite enough for my needs. I get good speeds both up and down at all times of the day, and aside from some intermittent downtime when they did the 20 meg upgrade, my service has been pretty much uninterrupted.
I've always been treated very well by them for the last 8 years (Telewest, who then merged with Virgin).
I'm sure there are other UK users with different ISPs who are equally happy with their service.
Plus you have to remember that when compared with the UK, everything is cheaper in the US. Sorry to sound like a Virgin saleswoman but I had to make it clear that good service can be found here in the UK  |
@ Arachne: I was only going by what others from the UK have told me. 20mbs downstream is just as good as its gets here, I fully expected England to have equal service to the US and was surprised when others from "across the pond" have told me nightmarish stories about there providers. I am happy to hear that great service is available as I would have no way of knowing without your input, , maybe its the sections of England where my acquantances live (Leeds, Nottingham) the ISPs are not as good as you have).
