Re: Anybody note the intended price change after Jan 1/08 = buy licenses fast and use X_mas 20% off also

Here's the thing, though. I agree, as well, that the new prices will be extremely high and will definitely affect a great many decisions by people. (For instance, as a consequence of a nearly 50% increase in price, more people will be more likely to pirate the software rather than purchase it. They will use the higher price as a 'justification' for blatant stealing.) Many people will simply choose not to buy it. That is their choice.

However, on the other side of the coin, as a software developer I fully understand and appreciate the concept of getting paid for one's work. Slysoft puts a great deal of time and effort into creating their software. Anyone who thinks that reverse engineering the HD discs is a small undertaking is fooling themselves. Slysoft is a company with employees who like to get paid for their work. If they feel their work is worth an extra 47% on top of existing prices, that is their right to charge that. I'm not defending the prices, just their right to charge whatever it is they want to charge.

Do I think they'll lose potential customers due to this? Yes, it's unfortunate. That is both a potential customer's choice and Slysoft's right as a developer of software to make. If their revenue ends up going down as a result, I'm quite sure they're not just going to sit there and go "gee, oh well. We're not making any money on this but there's nothing we can do." They'll be forced to lower the prices back to what consumers will be willing to pay.

In the end, either buy it, or don't. It's really a simple choice.
