You are talking about what I call "translation subtitles". A perfect example is the movie The DaVinci Code, where (on the R1 disc at least) spoken Latin and French appears as an English subtitle. The problem is that the translations are not optically printed onto the film or as a distinct subpicture stream as they often were in the past, but rather use start commands in the full English subtitles to make them appear only for the non-English dialogue. I think you can use a free program called DVDSubEdit to extract the forced start subpictures and and then put them back in but I have not been successful at this. From what I have read elsewhere the start commands for the translation subtitles are in the VOB files and not the IFOs but I have not been able to verify this. I am still working on it. You could make an analog copy of the movie (play it back and capture is digitally or record it with another standalone recorder) but the quality would be nowhere near as good as what you get with DVDFab. You are correct that it is impossible to make a proper DVD to Mobile conversion of movies like this with DVDFab alone. I have tried VOB Passthrough with no luck on any of my players (but that may be a player problem).
