You don't have the necessary codecs installed. There are several utils (Google is your friend) that will identify which codecs have been used in a given file (Videoinspector and G-spot are two IIRC). You will then need to install them.
I'd start off with divX and ffdshow. This site
http://www.free-codecs.com/ is a good place to start.
