Hello
After i had several cheap PSU's die on me in the course of a few years, i changed to ENERMAX even tough they were (and still are) amongs the most expensive available in Thailand.
The first one was a 350 watts unit. It blew up during a very nasty power spike, which also completely fried my UPS and the Sony home stereo as well as the fuse in the TV set - the computer was NOT running at that time and i only found out about the fiasco when returning home from work and none of my devices would work, i was informed by the building owner that some giant welding apparatus on a nearby construction site (next door actually) had almost blown the main transformer (actually caused it to shut down) and many electronic devices in the neighbourhood were destroyed. I found that a capacitor in the Enermax had literally blown up - there were bits of it all over the case, however the rest of the computer was unharmed! I replaced that Enermax with an identical one (the warranty did not cover power surges... they recommended me to use a UPS, good joke i said, used one and it's fried as well) and it stayed with me untill four weeks ago when some mystic multi-device-failure brought my entire computer down (mainboard, CPU, graphics, possibly RAM too). When i built my new rig i also got a new PSU, and of course i went for ENERMAX again, this time a 450 watts unit.
that 350 watts ENERMAX was NOT amaged in the system meltdown! I just wanted a stronger one... i in fact sold the 350 watts unit
I would NEVER recommend using the PSU's that come in no-name cases - usually rated at very large wattage... i got one with "850 watts"! In a 950 Baht case (that's around 30 us$) yes, sure..... during a brief test run i measured it's voltages and i got 11.3 V on 12 and 4.6 V on 5 - without any load, just the mainboard and CPU/Fan! Hadn't even plugged in the RAM! CRAP i'd say, that thing doesn't have any brand sticker on it, just the power ratings but hey, it's got a fancy golden grille covering it's rear fan
I think tomorrow i'll take a pic of my rig and post it in the apropriate section here.... that case looks nice for me, and it was cheap - and finally i got front audio and USB connectors
Kind regards.....
